- As a matter of fact I am not.. like I said, that was 5 - 6 years ago and
- isn't in the league of modems I am talking about now as it (The Aprotek
- 2400 baud Mini-Modem) was C64 specific relying on the inbuilt RS-232
- routines of the C64 which were KNOWN to be flaky.. (as said my problems
- were fixed by adjusting the timers via software which was more of a
- mis-setting on the author of my BBS's software part then anything) some
- never even thought the C64 could DO 2400 baud back then because of this. I
- have long since stopped using it as I had sold it once I got a true RS-232
- port and RS-232 modem. I regret selling it now as I could have kept it
- for my second C64 - it truelly was the best C64 specific modem out there.

-
- For those in the know yes, but a lot of people only see the cheaper price
- and see 14.4k and/or 28.8K and think everything is fine but don't read
- the small print. I am basing my opinions on people's trouble connecting
- with other computers around town and the internet due to their modem
- having compression and error correction and/or flow control controlled by
- the modem's or terminal program's software rather then the hardware when
- connecting to other hardware controlled modems or name brands trimming th
- edges on the specifics to achieve a lower price or modems using older
- chips which require a newer upgrade to connect to certain other types of
- modems that are standard.. ie: take a look at a Zoom 14.4k modem and a
- USR 14.4k modem (for example).. people have been taking Zoom's back in
- droves (even though it is cheaper) and getting a USR modem.

- Maybe if you could point out something which was actually the C64s fault
- and you knew what you were talking about, then I wouldn't. You also said
- you weren't going to harp on the fact I still run a BBS off a C64 which
- you have been.. its as if this is something to be ashamed of... I don't
- like you giving the impression that it is.
